Andalucia and the Costa Del Sol

The largest of Spain’s regions is Andalucia in the south, where the climate is hot in the summer and mild in the winter. Its most obvious draws are its long coastline and the three remarkable cities of Cordoba, Seville and Granada. They each have their own treasures, but perhaps the most spectacular is the Moorish Alhambra Palace in Granada.

The coast of Andalucia is one of the most developed in Europe, with many golf courses and the chic resort of Marbella and its neighbours. Further east is Almeria, whose hot, dry climate supports a multitude of thriving agricultural businesses.

Marbella

Spain’s answer to St Tropez is a sun-drenched playground, full of chic bars, excellent restaurants, stunning beaches and colourful nightlife. Spend time in and around La Plaza de los Naranjos and you’re greeted with stately buildings, stylish boutiques, art galleries, bars and bistros; giving you the sense of being in a small village – within a beautiful cosmopolitan European city.

Puerto Banus

With spectacular yachts moored in its wonderful marina, Blue Flag beaches and a splendid mountain backdrop, Puerto Banus is one of Europe’s most stylish coastal towns. Celebrity spotting is the favourite pastime in the town’s many superb restaurants, clubs and casino. Does Puerto Banus have it all? Probably. It’s certainly a fabulous place to while away an evening.

Estepona

This charming town maintains a continuing tradition of fishing and farming that is best explored through the many markets and arts and crafts exhibits held in the narrow cobbled streets of the old port. Estepona’s beaches are her true treasures, stunning white sand gently shelving to crystal clear waters. Estepona is a wonderful place to call home; it’s a real piece of paradise on the western Costa del Sol, with stunning views to the Rock of Gibraltar and a charm all of its own.

Benalmadena

Divided into three areas; Benalmadena Pueblo, Benalmadena Costa and Arroyo de la Miel, the village is the proud birthplace of actor Antonio Banderas and he can often be seen visiting the magnificent marina. The original Pueblo is a typical Andalucian village with narrow alleys that, through their architecture, show hints of colourful Christian and Moorish histories.

Benahavis

This picturesque village in the hills above San Pedro de Alcantara has a reputation for haute cuisine and for its large number of excellent restaurants. Near Marbella, Benahavis is full of old narrow streets just waiting to be explored. The ruins of Montemayor express the town’s history while the enclave of La Aldea is a homage to Andalucia, with fountains, antiques and old-fashioned grilles.
