Property in Normandy

Normandy is split into two sections – Upper Normandy and Lower Normandy.

Upper Normandy has two main trading ports, Le Havre and Dieppe, although Dieppe still has the charms of its quaint markets. The area has many attractive seaside villages and white cliffs, similar to those of Dover.

Normandy, although quite urbanised, still has around 45% farming land and produces many products, amongst which are apple juice, calvados and Benedictine.

Buying property in Normandy is a popular choice, being close to both the UK and Paris. However, it is still possible to find reasonably priced properties for those looking to buy property in Normandy.

Lower Normandy was part of England in the middle ages and maybe this is why it is so similar to the UK, both in climate and countryside, having lots of green countryside, a rocky coastline harbouring lovely sandy beaches in resorts such as such as Deauville. Popular attractions in Lower Normandy include The Bayeux Cathedral, the Haras in Orne and the Abbaye-aux-Hommes.

You can reach Lower Normandy by ferry to Caen, Le Havre, Cherbourg and St Malo and of course the Channel Tunnel is another option. You can take your car on the TGV train from Le Havre, Caen or Cherbourg.

If you are looking for property in Lower Normandy, the coastal properties are more expensive, but if you are willing to look inland, the property is better value.
