Property in the
French Alps
Because of the best
and most varied skiing in the world, the culture and cuisine, the French
Alps has always been a favourite with people looking to buy ski property.
There are plenty of ski zones and resorts to choose from, with varying
prices. There is a lot of re-sale property to be found in the French
Alps, as well as some off-plan and leaseback schemes. This makes it
very attractive to people looking for investment property in France.
Courchevel, Meribel
and Val Thorens make up the Three Valleys, the most popular ski area
in Europe, with all the best facilities. If you are looking to buy French
ski property on these very popular resorts, then the price tag will
be very high, but if you are willing to look at the less sought after
resorts of La Tania and Les Menuires, you are looking at much lower
prices for your ski property.
With 800km of downhill
ski runs spread over many ski stations in France and Switzerland is
the Portes du Soleil, which in fact is better value for money for people
looking for ski property in the French Alps. There is something for
everyone and the architecture keeps with the environment. Some of the
popular resorts here are Avoriaz, Les Gets, Morzine and Chatel. Avoriaz
is the highest point at 1800km. Prices of ski property in this area
are much lower than in the Three Valleys.
The third largest
ski zone in France is Paradiski. In the centre of this area is La Plagne
which has many facilities including bars, restaurants, schools, making
it an attractive alternative choice to the pricier Three Valleys or
Portes due Soleil for people looking for French ski property. The areas
of Montchavin-Les-Coches and Les Arcs are also popular skiing areas,
with ski property in Les Arcs being slightly more expensive.
The Valmeinier ski
zone is smaller than the others, but makes a good investment. The village
of Valloire with its ski station is very authentic and the most typically
French of all the resorts. It has an all-year-round lively atmosphere
and to invest in ski property in Valloire costs considerably less than
some of the larger ski resorts. Although smaller, the Valmeinier ski
zone still has very good facilities and altitudes of up to 2600m with
good snow coverage. These features are all important when looking to
invest in Ski property in France.
Another very popular
ski resort in France (and thought by many to be the best) is Espace
Killy, which reaches an incredible 3650m at the Glacier of La Grande
Motte. The entertainment and facilities of Espace Killy are excellent,
both on and off the ski slopes and the two ski resorts of Val d’Isere
and Tignes, although not as picturesque as some of the other resorts
in France, are still very popular. Val d’Isere has over the years
been a very good investment and continues to be today.
In fact, over the
past few years, the capital value of ski property in France has increased
by around 88% each year and the fact that there is no more new building
allowed in the popular resorts and the demand is still as sound as ever,
makes buying ski property in France a very sound investment indeed.
