Catania Guide
Catania resides in the shadow of Mount Etna, the volcano
that often has, sent forth great flows of lava, even on occasion into
the town itself.
One of the sights to visit is Villa Bellini a large park with a enormous
variety of exotic plants. On the top of a hill, where is a little kiosk,
one can enjoy a beautiful view of the city and out towards the Etna
volcano.
The botanical garden The Orto Botanico built in the 1950s, shows species
from across the world. Some remarkable specimens of Dracena Drago and
Euforbia Brachiata are also included.
In very heart of the city, PIAZZA DEL DUOMO designed by Vaccarini, surrounded
by magnificent Baroque buildings which giving it a great elegance. On
the centre rises the Fontana dell’Elefante (Fountain of the Elephant)
which is the symbol of the town.
